Storm in Sulu's band as senior bandmembers boycott show

A storm is brewing in Suluman Chimbetu’s camp.

Reports are that the Dendera Musician last week cancelled his show at Takarangana Nightclub in Hatcliffe following a boycott by senior members- Moffat “Mhofela” Nyamupandu and Knowledge “Nodza” Nkoma

Mhofu and Nodza were not immediately available for a comment but the protest is said  to have come after Sulu recently buried hired two instrumentalists as substitutes for Nodza and Mhofela.

Sources say Mhofela and Nodza refused to perform saying, “We are not coming there, let  your substitutes play”

Apart from Noda and Mhofela, the rebellious team also includes two other members who threatened to quit the band if the matter was not settled..

Sulu who was reported to be totally furious and inconsolable over the issue,is understood to have told Mhofela and Nodza to surrender all the band’s property they have and ‘pack and go’!

“Sulu wants the band to grow and he roped in cover guitarists for Mhofela and Nodza but it seems they want monopoly of everything which is why they protested and refused to go on stage. “The other thing is that the new guy identified as Tafadzwa is very good, so I think they are feeling threatened as well,” said the source

Sulu, through his publicists Joe Local Nyamungonga confirmed the fracas but played it down describing it as a storm in a tea cup rather! “A storm brewing at Dendera? I don’t want to call it a storm but if you think so, maybe it’s a storm in a teacup, “quipped Joe.

“Yes we cancelled the show last Thursday, there were some misunderstandings but as we speak everything is now okay. As you know Captain Sulu is a true soldier, soldiers battle and they are always prepared for battle and as such there was already a plan B. Now when those who were behind the conflict realised there was a plan B and that it was about to be effected, they came back. Panga paita maGamatox but everything is good now.

Apparently the reason for Sulu to bring in substitutes was because Mhofela and Nodza would often turn up late for corporate shows much to Sulu’s embarrassment and despair since those shows are the ones crucial for the band’s survival.

A stand out incident was when Mhofela arrived late at Sulu’s album launch!
